The latest survey announced by the German Federal E -commerce and mail order (BEVH) shows that the rise in cardboard box costs has seriously affected the online retail industry.
According to the feedback of the survey, 93.8% of the respondents said that the price of cardboard boxes “significantly increased” in the past 12 months, and 6.2% said that the rise was “mild”. No cardboard box manufacturer said the price remained unchanged or decreased. When asked if the price raised in the next 12 months, 70.8% of the respondents answered “yes”, and only 14.6% gave a negative answer. The price of cardboard boxes is expected to continue to rise in the future.
On the other hand, most online retailers also said that the inventory of cardboard boxes was seriously insufficient. Only 18.8%of the interviewed companies said they had enough cardboard box inventory for the next 12 months. At the same time, the rise in cardboard boxes also brought cost pressure to online retailers. 52.1% of the interviewed companies said that they had to buy the cost pressure brought by the cardboard at a higher price. Another 22.9% of the interviewed companies stated that they could not afford costs and were already studying alternatives.
